EPD for the Future® Air Handling Unit – Environmental Impacts Transparently Presented

An EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) has been prepared for Koja’s Future® air handling unit, providing an impartial and standardized way to present the product’s environmental impacts throughout its entire life cycle. With the EPD, designers, contractors, and developers can make more responsible choices, as environmental aspects are easily comparable.

The energy-efficient Future® air handling unit is designed to meet the ventilation requirements of today’s buildings. The EPD complements the product’s value proposition by providing concrete information about its environmental impacts.

"The EPD was prepared in collaboration with an independent expert organization, utilizing standardized LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) methods. The result is a reliable and comparable environmental product declaration, verified by a third party. The scalability of our product range to different needs and air volumes posed a challenge for the project, but we found an excellent solution that suited our needs,” says Koja’s CTO, Taneli Timlin.

The publication of a third-party verified EPD is an important step towards more transparent and responsible practices in the construction industry.

"The EPD provides precise information on environmental impacts and supports our customers’ sustainability goals. Our aim is to prepare declarations for all our key products and to continue systematic work to reduce environmental impacts," Timlin adds.

Environmental product declarations for modular Future air handling units and Future H products can be downloaded from the EPD International website. Separate declarations have been prepared for different heat recovery types (liquid circulation, rotor, counterflow).

EPD, Environmental Product Declaration

An EPD is an environmental declaration that presents the environmental impacts of a product. It is based on a life cycle assessment (LCA) covering the product’s entire life cycle. The environmental impacts of the product are compiled and calculated from raw material acquisition to end-of-life disposal.
